I have to admit I never thought I would visit Mexico as many times as I have, but it’s a vibrant, beautiful country filled with friendly people, with stunning architecture, with a long history, and tasty local cuisine. I mean who doesn’t love Mexican food?

On my trips, I have seen many amazing things like the Mayan ruins, to jungles filled with monkeys, along with the bustling city of Cancun and everything in between. Like most first-time travelers, I decided to stay at a resort in the town of Playa del Carmen. However, being adventurous I did travel outside of the touristy towns, to see what Mexico has to offer, and fall in love!
Getting around Mexico when on the resort is pretty simple, as there are many hotels approved taxis waiting to take you anywhere in the city.
Taxis are pretty inexpensive in Mexico. They can charge by metered, not metered or charged by zones.
I found most of the outings I took were charged by zones which were posted on the podium which was located right outside of the Resort.
The taxis drives were very friendly and spoke pretty good English, and when they took me into locations where I could get into trouble they would wait for me so they could make sure I returned to the resort safely.

While staying at Sandos Caracol I was booked under an all-inclusive plan so I was fortunate to have many restaurants just steps away with some amazing cuisine. I have to admit Los Lirios had the most succulent steak.
It would put any meal you would have at The Keg to shame.

While on vacation I would suggest exploring the ancient city of Coba or the cliff-top ruins of Tulum or Chichen Itza. I have to admit I have been to them all and each one provides you with something completely different.
The views from Tulum are magnificent. After visiting you can see why they would build a city there.
Tulum is popular because of its elegant setting on sheer limestone cliffs above the turquoise splendor of the crashing Caribbean, this city is the only Mayan city built on the coast.

Seeing Chichen Itza at night was one of the best things I have done. This 7 wonder of the world is a must see and viewing it at night was worth every penny. Since tickets are limited you feel like you are there alone. You are able to get best photos of El Castillo without any photobombers.
The light show is projected the Pyramid El Castillo showing you the Mayan culture and Mayan Legends.

Tip: do not waste money on purchasing the iPod audio guide, even though the story is in Spanish you are unable to sync up the recording.
No trip is complete without a little shopping. A must when in Playa Del Carmen is Visiting 5th Avenue. I find the best time to visit 5th Avenue ave is in the morning as it is usually calm and peaceful. However, if you enjoy more of a clubbing scene then the evening would be the best time for you to go as there are more people and even street performers.
